Athan, Freedom of Expression Activist Organization found that there are 52 journalists who have faced trails and there are 36 complaints against the journalists under the current government. Of all the cases, twenty were sued by government officials, six by the military and ten by various individuals.

              Most cases were filed under Article 66D of the Telecommunications Law. Other cases were filed under the Unlawful Association Law, Burma Official Secret Act, Section 500 and 505(b) of Penal Code, News Media Law, Law Protecting the Privacy and Security of Citizens, the Myanmar Aircraft Act, Export and Import Law and Immigration Act.
